The Azadi Project partners with LeanIn.Org to support mental health in Lesbos
The Azadi Project, in partnership with LeanIn.Org and with the support of Sheryl Sandberg,
Chief Operating Officer at Facebook and Founder of LeanIn.Org and Rachel Thomas, co-
founder and CEO of LeanIn.Org, has implemented the first Lean In Circles for refugee women.
Azadi-Lean In Circles will debut on International Women’s Day 2021 in the Moria Refugee
Camp in Lesbos as the first component of Azadi’s comprehensive mental health services
program for refugee women. Women from Moria will gather biweekly for social support and
friendship in Azadi’s safe, welcoming space outside the camp. In addition to being able to share
their experiences and access the support they need, these women will develop essential
leadership skills. Furthermore, Azadi-Lean In Circles will serve as a gateway for women, who
need additional support, to access private, individual counseling with certified remote
psychologists.
Azadi-Lean In Circles are just one component of Azadi’s comprehensive programing for refugee
women. Within the next three years, Azadi Lean-In Circles will emerge in refugee camps and
migrant communities all over the world, including the world’s largest refugee camp, Kutupalong
Refugee Camp in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, Zaatari Refugee Camp in Jordan, and others in
Africa, Latin America and North America.
